Pundaquit's wet season attraction “Surfing “

Its challenging to learn surfing and it could take years to master it, but when you learn how to surf, riding the waters are just fun as any other sports. Many beginners get discouraged during their first attempts and must really have the “try, try again” attitude because surfing is supposed to be fun. It may look so easy when watching the pros, but there are a lot of surfing basics that you should know before paddling out. The best way to start is usually a surfing lesson. 87 percent of surfing is about paddling the waves, it will only begin after you have trained yourself by popping up in the sands, this is where you should be practicing on the beach. Lying down on the board, your hands on the board in push-up position with legs extended behind you. Then, when ready, push yourself up and stand up with your feet firmly on board. But aside from learning what to do first, the critical decision you should think first is what board you are going to use and where to surf.

In the Philippines, known to have plenty of islands and awesome beaches, there are many to choose from. But the nearest place or beach where you can play with the waves is in Zambales. With just 2-3 hour drive from Manila, you will see the beautiful beaches that provide good waves in San Antonio, San Narciso and in San Felipe. It may not be that popular than any other surfing areas, like Baler, La Union, Ilocos, Siargao and most part of Samar, Pundaquit in San Antontio Zambales has already contributed a lot of tourists and surfers.

Best time to surf during the hot, dry season is when there is a Southwest monsoon formation or “Habagat”, along the west Philippine sea facing the China sea, while in the Northeast monsoon "Amihan" season are surf spots facing the Pacific.

Luckily, we were invited to an event in Juanitos Restaurant, a fund raising event for the upcoming PSCT “ Philippine Surfing Championship Tour” to be held in Surigao del Sur in September. Many of the local surfer communities participated at the kickoff party, there are also surfers from other places who have joined like Michael Eijansantos the owner of mylifeonboard.net and surfers all along the metro! It was a special day for me as it was my first time to glimpse the activities offered during the wet season, eye catching,

it is really a stoked feeling to watch my countrymen ride the waves like what I see in the western films and documentaries. I must say, I am now even more interested to catch up with the growing community of surfers in the country.
